Thailand claims bronze in women’s wheelchair basketball
Thailand women’s wheelchair basketball team defeated the Islamic Republic of Iran by a fingernail to claim the bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Para Games on Thursday.
Thailand won the match at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex basketball hall in Senayan, Jakarta, by just one point, 41-40 (13-12, 20-18, 27-31 and 41-40).
“This medal is very meaningful for us,” Thailand assistant coach Tawatchai Jaisin said.
“This is our first medal at the Asian Para Games. I think the Thai people are also pleased with our victory,” he added.
This year marks the team’s second participation at Asia’s largest multi-sporting event for the disabled. In its debut at the 2010 Asian Para Games, Thailand finished below China and Japan.
